Yum!!!

           This is my husband, "Skee" enjoying  a slice of my bread, fresh out of the oven.  I never have to ask him more than once if he wants a sample and of course, as you can see, he likes it with butter and slathered with strawberry jam (Polarner) or honey. Is there anything better in your house than that of fresh bread baking in the oven, filling the entire place with that mouth-watering aroma?  It's something Skee never tires of.  So many times we can hardly wait for the bread to cool down enough to slice it, and if it's too warm, the slice is squashed, but still delicious.  Of course, this bread is made with the freshly ground wheat grain flour, just minutes before going into the dough, not from flour that has been sitting on a shelf in a store for months and months. The entire wheat grain, with all the wonderful nutrients, are in every bite of this delicious bread. Nothing artificial has been added to it and absolutely no preservatives.  It is made entirely with this whole wheat flour. No enriched white flour in it at all. 

       I rarely use white flour in anything.  I feel there is not enough nutrients in it to make it worth using, plus lacking in natural fiber.  Yes, it is "enriched" but that had to be done after all the wonderful parts of the wheat were removed. There would have been nothing in it worth eating.  I would rather eat vitamins that are natural than synthetic ones added to flour. Commercially ground whole wheat flour contains most of the bran, but the wheat germ and germ oil have been removed to prevent the flour from becoming rancid.  These two ingredients contain the elements that are the life force of the grain and are essential for good health.  Whole wheat flour should be ground as needed.  It can be stored in the freezer, then warmed to room temperature if you aren't going to use it within a few days after being milled.  I use organic, non-gmo Hard Spring Wheat from Montana.  It is planted in the spring and it is not irrigated, thus yielding a high protein and low moisture content.

          Did you know you can substitute all wheat flour, or at least part of it, for the white flour in any recipe?  Those delicious chocolate chip cookies that your family loves, will be just as delicious with wheat flour with all the benefits of the whole grain.  You may want to start out with a small portion of wheat flour and increase it in time.  They won't know it is there.  Sometimes a person may experience some "stomach issues" due to the fiber in the wheat when you first are using more wheat in your diet.  You may want to start out slow and gradually increase it till you eliminate the white flour entirely in your baking. Wheat grain can be milled into a very fine pastry flour.  All those wonderful sweet treats that you make and your family enjoys, can be made with whole wheat flour.  I have made a whole wheat angel food cake that surprises everyone and is delicious. It might not be as high as white flour cake but it's just as good. My bars and cookies are made with my whole wheat flour, as well.  Caramel rolls are one of our favorites, made with all wheat flour. That's a treat Skee really enjoys.  When I am making bread I will use a portion of the dough for them.  We enjoy them on Sun. morning breakfast. 

       In the bible, in John 6:35, Jesus stated "I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me will ever be hungry again."  As I have read that many times, I have pondered those words a lot and it's meaning.  I have searched many bible commentaries and I haven't found the answers I'm looking for.  I keep coming back to the comparison of wheat bread.  It is filling and satisfying.  It is full of life giving, natural ingredients, including the 27 vitamins and minerals that are in the freshly ground flour from the whole grain.  It doesn't need anything else. No chemicals. No preservatives. No fillers. It is all you need.  There it is!  With Jesus in your life, you will find He satisfies all your needs, and gives you life, not only eternal, but here on this earth.  Just as the nutrients in the wheat give us life and health, so it is with Him in your life.  I can't fathom that sometimes, but it is true. He wants a personal relationship with you.  He didn't come to make a new religion, but to give you a relationship with Him through faith. It happened on the CROSS. Psalm 34:8 says" O taste and see that the LORD is good".
